Three Tips for Reaching the Mobile Viewer with Your Online Event

With millions of apps now available, mobile technology has grown at a huge pace in a short period of time. In small businesses alone, tablet use rose to 67% while 85% of SMB’s reported using smart phones to conduct everyday tasks. At only two years old, the web conferencing mobile capability is one of the quickest adopted technologies for businesses in history.

Good news is you can deliver the same webinar content to both desktop and mobile participants. If you remember in video two of this series, to keep your audience engaged, we suggested not letting your slides get too wordy and to stay away from packing them full of bullet points This is especially true for a mobile audience who are watching on a 3 inch or 10 inch screen. Let’s take a look at 3 additional tips to keep in mind when creating online presentations for a mobile audience.

1. Use a platform that offers a mobile app.

Your audience has taken the time out of their day to join your webinar. By making your webinar “mobile friendly” you give your participants the choice on how and where to attend. For your mobile users, selecting a platform that offers a mobile app, is much simpler for those on the go to access than a web browser. Because your users may be joining from a tablet or smart phone, make sure the platform app you choose allows mobile participants to zoom in, for example onto the slide deck or video. This becomes helpful when watching from a 3 inch or 10 inch screen.

2. Keep content simple.

Screen sizes vary across devices, interactive functionality is limited to the platform app and depending on your location connection speeds can fluctuate. Even with these limits, make sure you keep your content short and to the point. For example, create a slide for every main point so that it is easy to be seen on a smaller screen. Also, by using rich media in your presentation you can deliver the same message with less words.

3. Create calls to action that are appropriate for a mobile user.

Create your meeting room layout to provide the mobile user the same experience as someone using a mouse. For example, opt for using poll questions instead of short answer. This way, participants can click on their answer as opposed to taping on a small keyboard. Also, give your mobile audience the ability to send a text to request more information. If you make it simple for the mobile user to be engaged, you’ll have a much better chance of converting those attendees into sales ready leads.

Don’t let the idea of having mobile users attend your events limit your creativity. Use it to your advantage! As we’ve discussed, selecting a webinar platform that has the built in interactive features and keeping content concise and simple will make your attendees experience more enjoyable, whether on a desktop, laptop or mobile device. And lastly, make sure to test each of your interactions and presentations on a mobile & tablet device to get a clear understanding of what your audience is seeing and hearing.
